The 14 Valentines Day Midlands Musts
Huoooyaaaaa, this may be one of the hardest experiences to write about this far. This experience was a cocktail of adrenaline, excitement, fear and absolute beauty.
Myself, Chris and Rachel were lucky enough to all experience the tour together. Rachel did not speak all the way from home in the Dargle, until after the first slide, it is possibly the quietest she’s been since she was born! She was terrified but also SO keen to come along so off we went!
We were teamed up with a guiding team made up of Sibi, Sihle (Rachels Driver) and Robert (the photographer). We were briefed and kitted out (with lots of giggles resulting from the guys putting their harneses on – some rearranging was necessary ;) ) and we were good to go.
A short drive up the hill and we were in the forest, it was a cool, drizzly Midlands day – the smell of the forest is one of my favorite smells in the world – I’m not sure you will find cleaner air in many other places.
Sibi gave us a little demo and he was off, followed by Rachel and Sihle (there was a shriek of laughter and adrenaline) and she did not keep quiet after that! Feeling a little nervous myself, I happily stepped back when Chris insisted on going next, and then, well, it was my turn…

As I let myself go, I was completely filled with adrenaline – I was going so fast, the ground was so far away and I was surrounded by complete beauty – I was in ABSOLOUTE AWE! There are a lot of different slides, varying in length, obstacles and views, they are all fantastic!
My favorite had to be the 5th slide, where you navigate your way around a strangling fig, slowly to start, and then it’s time to let go (no breaks allowed on this slide) after about 10m you completely pop out of the canopy layer and you are just out there in the open flying over the forest – it was one of the most exhilarating and beautiful things I have ever experienced!
Adrenaline Junkies, this is for you and for the more conservative – let your hair down and give it a go, you will not be disappointed!
Thank you Kai and the Team for this INCREDIBLE experience and keep up the great, great work!!
